No.27, Da Hong Pao

$6.60$61.60

General brewing instructions: 3g of leaves to 7oz (200ml) of water at 195F for 2 minutes. Can be re-brewed up to 5 times with hotter water and longer infusions when brewed Gong Fu style.

From the Wuyi Mountains in Fujian, China, Da Hong Pao is grown in a rocky-soil scenic area famous for its distinct mineral undertones and sweet-tart dried fruit flavors. This tea has powerful charcoal overtones and persistent flavors. Its leaves are withered briefly in the sun to remove moisture and then rolled, oxidized, and high-fired. Its name means “big red robe.” Legend has it an emperor once sent his luxurious robes to protect these tea bushes. Use 3 tsp (3g) of leaves to 7oz (200 ml) of water. Brew at 195F for 2 minutes.  Gong Fu brewing recommended.

Origin: Fujian, China

About Our Tea Offerings

Tea measurements and water amount and temperatures vary, based on your personal preferences. We advise rinsing tea for a few seconds before the first infusion, at the same temperature as the brewed water. This softens the leaves for brewing. Filtered water, if possible. Use our brewing instructions only as guidelines. Your preferences are the most important.

Most of our teas are organic, but some are not Certified Organic. Our tea descriptions will let you know which of them carry the USDA Certified Organic label. Importantly, know that we support and work directly with conscientious, small independent farmers.
